Who We are - About Lake Oswego Police Foundation

The Lake Oswego Police Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to raising supplemental funds that directly support the Lake Oswego Police Department. Our foundation exists to enhance the safety and well-being of our community by providing resources and funding that go beyond the city’s budget.

Our supporters are the heart of our efforts, enabling us to strengthen our vision of a well-equipped, well-trained police force that can effectively serve the residents and businesses of Lake Oswego. Together, we are committed to building a safe, thriving community for all who live, work, and visit here.

Lake Oswego Chief of Police

Chief Burke started his policing career in 1989 after graduating from Western Oregon State College (now Western Oregon University). He was hired by the City of Forest Grove, Oregon in 1989 where he developed the base of his policing philosophy, which focused on community involvement and partnership. After a little over three years in Forest Grove, Chief Burke made the move to the City of Portland where he served for 25 years. While working for the Portland Police Bureau, Chief Burke was fortunate to have been given opportunities to work in several positions within the organization, to include the Records Division, Detective Division and several assignments in Patrol. He retired from the Police Bureau in 2016 as the commander of North Precinct.

In January 2017, he was hired by the Salem Police Department where he spent the majority of my time as the deputy chief over the investigations division but finished his time there as the deputy chief of operations.

In September of 2022, George was hired to be the Chief of Police for the Lake Oswego Police Department. Chief Burke has continued his commitment to community with a focus on fair and equitable policing for all residents of the City.
